Enrico Iachello
Enrico Iachello (Francofonte – 1952), Full Professor of Modern History, is the Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, University of Catania, and Professeur invité at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales of Paris and at the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme of Paris. He is Co-ordinator of the Doctorate in History of Culture, Society and Territory in the Modern Age, and he is also the director of several Masters degrees. He works for the Department of Cultural, Human and Territorial Sciences. He co-ordinates several research projects co-financed by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research), by CNR (National Research Council), and by the Italian-French University. He collaborates with journals such as “Quaderni Storici”, “Rivista Storica Italiana”, “Annales ESC”, “Revue d’histoire moderne et contemporaine”. He is the author of several monographs and essays, his research focusing on the history of the cities and the territory of the Mediterranean in the modern age, with special attention on the processes of formation of the Sicilian territorial identities.
Melania Nucifora
Melania Nucifora (Catania, 1973) graduated at the Venice University Institute of Architecture, got her Master II in History and Analysis of the Territory (Higher School for Excellence Education, University of Catania) and specialized in environmental issues at the Formez Higher Education Course for Experts in Environmental Studies. She is currently a granted researcher at the Department of Cultural, Human and Territorial Sciences where she is leading her research on the historical development of settlement, particularly referring to the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 2002 she has been teaching Urban History at the Faculty of Humanities (University of Catania). She has been Consultant for the Sustainable Development Department at the Environment Ministry within the planning activity for the EU Structural Funds 2000-2006.

Paolo Militello
Paolo Militello (Scicli - 1968) is Associate Professor of Modern History at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, University of Catania. He has a PhD in Modern History and he is Docteur de l’Ecole des hautes études en sciences socials of Paris in Histoire et civilizations. He is a member of several groups of research which are co-financed by the University of Catania, by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research), by CNR (National Research Council), and by the EU. He is Secretary of the Faculty for the Doctorate in History of Culture, Society and Territory in the Modern Age. He works for the Department of Cultural, Human and Territorial Sciences. His research focuses on the methods and representations of space in the Mediterranean in the modern age and, in particular, on the processes of formation of the territorial identities which are analysed through pictorial and cartographic representations.
